Frank Lampard has urged the side to carry the momentum achieved by yesterday's FA Cup routing into the League has urged the side to carry the momentum achieved by yesterday's FA Cup routing into the League. The Double goalscorer believes the 7-0 triumph over Ipswich could reignite the League campaign as we prepare to host Blackburn this weekend.
Sunday's game saw our vice-captain score a brace alongside
Daniel Sturridge.
Nicolas Anelka and
Salomon Kalou also found the net while
Josh McEachran put in a confident display in midfield.
'It's a great result and a great performance,' said Lampard. 'It was a very fresh performance from start to finish, some of the young lads came in and did really well, and it's what we needed. Now we just need to take that into the League.'
Chelsea went into the break 3-0 up before demolishing the visitors further in the second half. The Blues continued to push forward and threaten for the duration of the fixture, creating some beautiful football Lampard believes could help put the recent run of results behind us.
'The performance was something like our best but Ipswich's manager has just left and they are a Championship team.
'No disrespect to them but it came at quite a nice time for us to get the confidence back.
'Now the important thing is not to think we are back but to carry that over into the next couple weeks and get back to winning.
'But any goals are great for confidence and for players like Sturridge and McEachran to come in and do so well, they really stood out, it's a great freshness to our squad.
'We never felt like we were going to rest. When you have been through a phase like we've been through you can't play half a game and sit back. You have to play your way back into form.
'The aim now is to win more games; it's as simple as that. We are looking week-by-week at the minute because at the moment we are not winning in the League. We need to get back to winning games.'
Salomon Kalou put us in the lead with his 50th goal for Chelsea just past the half-hour mark but within seconds Sturridge had made it two. Another goal came before half-time, courtesy of Ipswich's Carlos Edwards, before the thumping was completed in the second period.
Lampard knows once Chelsea have scored it's much harder for teams to contain us, as they open up in search for an equaliser, and insists early goals are the remedy to our blip in results.
'If we can score earlier in games then we will go on and win comfortably. The League games are very important now over the next couple of weeks.
'It's not nice to be slipping off the top of the League like we have done but as a club we can't win comfortably every week. It's a character-building session for the squad and we have to come back stronger.
'Maybe we have started to pass slower and we haven't been getting behind teams enough. When we do start playing like we did against Ipswich, we can be back at the top.
'If we add some new players in January then fantastic and hopefully we can get back to
